Day-by-Day Floral STEM Lab™ Camp Experience

Day 1 — Discover the Science of Flowers

Discover the Science of Flowers

Students begin their journey by exploring the fascinating world of plant biology and botanical anatomy. Through engaging demonstrations and hands-on exploration, students learn how flowers grow, how stems transport water and nutrients, and how nature’s design systems influence floral structures. Students create their first floral arrangement, applying basic principles of balance, proportion, and color harmony.

Key Learning Topics

• Parts of a flower and plant anatomy
• How flowers absorb and transport water
• Introduction to floral design tools and materials
• Color harmony and basic composition.
Hands-on Project
Students design their first professional-style floral arrangement to take home.

Day 2 — Flower Care & Bouquet Techniques (10 AM–4 PM)

Math and Patterns in Nature

Students explore the mathematical beauty found in nature by observing natural symmetry, spirals, and geometric patterns in flowers and plants. They learn how designers use these natural structures to create visually balanced arrangements. Students build a botanical centerpiece while learning structural design techniques.

Key Learning Topics

• Natural geometry and patterns in plants
• Balance and symmetry in design
• Floral mechanics and structure
• Introduction to sustainable floral design
Hands-on Project
Students create a botanical centerpiece design.

Day 3 — Floral Engineering & Structural Design

Floral Engineering & Structural Design

Students discover how floral designers and event designers build larger installations and stable structures using engineering principles. Students experiment with different techniques used to support flowers and create dimensional designs.

Key Learning Topics

• Structural mechanics in floral design
• Stability and support techniques
• Creative design thinking
• Sustainability in modern floral design
Hands-on Project
Students design a structural floral piece or mini installation.

Day 4 — Creative Design & Event Styling

Creative Design & Event Styling

Students explore how floral designers use flowers to transform spaces for events, celebrations, and special occasions. They learn how color, texture, and scale influence design.

Key Learning Topics

• Event styling and design concepts
• Creative storytelling through flowers
• Tablescape design and presentation
• Professional floral techniques
Hands-on Project
Students create a styled floral centerpiece or tablescape element.

Day 5 — Floral Innovation & Creative Entrepreneurship

Floral Innovation & Creative Entrepreneurship

On the final day, students combine everything they have learned to create a final design project. Students also learn how creativity can lead to real careers in floral design, event design, and creative entrepreneurship.

Key Learning Topics

• Design thinking and creativity
• How florists and event designers build businesses
• Presentation and creative storytelling
Hands-on Project
Students complete a final floral design project and presentation.

Why Floral STEM Education Matters

The Floral STEM Lab™ program introduces students to the powerful connection between science, creativity, and design thinking.

By studying flowers and plants, students naturally explore concepts from several STEM disciplines:

Botanical Science

Understanding flower & plant biology, growth, and ecosystems.

Technology

Using tools and techniques used by professional designers.

Design & Engineering

Learning structural mechanics and stability in design.

Mathematics

Exploring Fibonacci patterns, symmetry, and proportion found in flowers and plant structures in nature. At the same time, students develop creative confidence and artistic expression, making Floral STEM Lab™ a unique program that blends scientific discovery with creative exploration. Creative STEM summer camp in NYC blending floral design, plant science, and entrepreneurship.
